Your parents' fiftieth anniversary, your family's once-every-decade reunion, your son's confirmation, your daughter's first dance recital. If it's worth celebrating, it's worth considering a professional recording. Why not use cell phones, or even Uncle Charlie's camcorder, you ask?
The answer is in the quality of the finished product. Professional cameras, professional microphones and experience make the difference here. If you're willing to accept shaky footage, echoey and faint audio, and running the risk of failure from inexperience, then you don't need a professional. But for those events that are destined to become treasured memories for your family, the cost of not having it professionally captured may be more than you want to pay.
